Polder digital timer model 898-90 has really useful functions that are NOT commonly found in a $16 kitchen timer: 1+2) direct entry of the timer setting (uses a number pad; no scrolling), which it retains for next use -- great when you're doing something in timed increments, say, cook 3 minutes, stir, cook 3 more min, stir, etc; 3+4) decently loud, one-full-minute alarm sounds when time is up, AND if you happen to miss it, it counts up how long since it went off -- called "overtime" feature! -- so you know exactly how much extra cooking time your food has endured. 5) the attached lanyard is convenient for hanging the timer around your neck and take with you when you leave the kitchen to do other things, thus insuring you'll hear it go off! 6) VERY durable: I've owned two of these -- consecutively -- over the last 30 years. Just replaced the battery and it's off and running again!

We've owned one of these lanyard timers for years. Accidently dropped it and broke it. Ordered the newest version of the same model. We're very pleased. The alarm is now louder and easier to hear. There is also a new locking button. Great job Polder!
